Ofsted Self-Evaluation Form (SEF)

08 May 2018 Ofsted

Ofsted have announced that it is scrapping its early years self-evaluation form (SEF) from 1st April 2018 and the form will no longer exist.

The form is currently optional for early years providers ahead of an inspection and designed to help them prepare.

The decision comes after a review of the form by Ofsted, which concluded that it was not necessary. Managers and staff can still evaluate their practice and should be able to explain this to an inspector. But from April onwards, they will no longer have an SEF to complete.

Last year, Ofsted clarified that the SEF was not a requirement as part of an early years myth-busting campaign.

Ofsted hopes that removing the form altogether will help reduce the administrative burden on early years providers

General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) Information

27 March 2018 Miscellaneous

Childcare practitioners will need to assess their use of data and look at how they gather, hold, and share any personally identifiable information, which includes anything that can be used to identify a specific person. This is not new as such, as all practitioners who use software, mobile phones, tablets must register with Information Commissioners Office (ICO) anyway, however, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is looking to strengthen how the use of data is stored.
